Will it bite?
The Australian boomerang,

or throwing stick, is a well known part of the world history. But few in the Americas, have had the opportunity to see or find it's counterpart, used here in this hemisphere.

While not intended to return, as the boomerang is known to do, the American throwing stick, also known as a Rabbit Stick, still was a hunting tool of potential.

The sample displayed by the Pecos, was recovered at the Zueberbueler shelter, in West Texas. One of several thousand artifacts recovered, that were made of materials, that normally do not survive the ages.

Only the dryness of the atmosphere, and protection of it's surroundings, made it possible that this bit of wood, is now available for us to view.

You may note that the stick, has been cut off at one end. The scars show the early man system, of saw and snap was used. We can only speculate the reason for the end being removed, possibly damaged in the hunt.

We can only theorize the why, the when, and how man first found there was a power greater than his. It will be clues, like the painted walls and painted pebbles, along with such items, as the altered rabbit stick, that will be our evidence, if it did occur.
