Not only did the Pecos museum find this a most compelling art, the publisher of the book "Rock Art of Texas" used it on his cover.Sure we see the vast array of man's art here, but it is more than volume that makes the museum archaeologist spend extra time trying to gain information. The most telling fact is the lack of the Atlatl. Almost invariably, early man in his art, that of himself, placed the hunting tool in the art. But here it is lacking. Why? Many theories could be offered, but the truth there is not an obvious reason. But if theory were to be offered, than a few added facts need be given. Among the numerous artifacts recovered at the Zueberbueler shelter, were several painted pebbles. Two displayed below. A common feature seen on these bits of small art, is what could be suggested as a face. That added to the unusual occurrence of a large deposit of snails and burnt rock, along with several of the painted rocks. This deposit was a feature, unrelated to the surrounding shelter deposit. It was obvious a single occurrence, what we would call a family BBQ. Man of several shelters, may have gathered for a special affair. What? We will never know, but theory is easy to come by. There had to be a time when man first entered into what we refer to as believing in a power greater than himself. Could the painting above, suggest such a time, the deposit with the stones also?
