The games of the new world
|
As we can see from the above illustrations, the game of Lacrosse was part of early man history, here in North America. But it was not the only game to be popular with indigenous man. The long hours of grinding and polishing stone would produce stone balls and disks. Their use as witnessed by early explorers, is described with the artifacts. The least mysterious of these would be the ***stone balls***. Our samples are from Florida in the U.S.A. and the Sonora desert of Mexico. It is with the chungke stone, that we must be thankful to early explorers for their observations. In use from the heart land of North America to the south and the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Our sample is from Florida. The game of Lacrosse was not only popular among the pre historic peoples of the America, it now finds similar appreciation around the globe. From a long forgotten arena, in the dust of time, our artifacts of what may be the game in it's earliest form, recovered in Sonora, the mystery of stone and shell. |
