Not all paint art was done on the walls of the shelter. A few small items were recovered amidst the thousands of years of floor debris.

Wood, bone or shell, served at times as man's canvas.

While rare, the painted river pebbles are the prime examples of miniature art. Unexplained is the total lack of similarity to the art upon the walls.

The sample below was recovered from the Pecos research site. A click and you have it in full.

The freshness of the paint is due to the case it sat in for several millennia. The art was wrapped in the skin of prickly pear cactus.

Below is a set, a river pebble and shell recovered in close association. Their common style suggests a common artist.

Small painted items other than pebbles are all but unknown. The shell above was one exception. Below are a few more. First spalls from the shelter walls. Note they were painted after separating from the lime stone walls.
