To day we think little of carrying around with us charms, personal photos, even Elvis portrayed on your backs, t-shirts. Some may select tattoos, earings, long hair. It is our private way of expressing ourselves. It may be political, religious, or just our way. So why should we be so surprised that early man should do the same? Then there is to be considered our desire to make and have everything, even Radios in our shirt pockets, TV sets on our wrists, computers in our cars. Early man? Unfortunately we can not use our cell phones to call up the residence of the Zueberbueler shelter and ask them what they were thinking. We will have to compare our response to today's events and look for a possible clue. One thing that has been revealed about early man, that he not unlike ourselves, was continuously progressing. This was a new avenue for man. As we describe in other papers, man the creature had been very limited in his creativity. True he had been able to survive as other creatures had, developed hunting, and natural reproduction. But little else. Two million years, yes all that time and little change. The anthropologist tell us stone tools were in use prior to the evolution of the man. It would seem that man the creature was no more creative than the family pet. But we are talking of man the human. The recovered material at the shelter suggests that we are seeing the creature of two million years past, evolve to man the human. Back to the mini-arts. This little bit of history we inserted to remind us that many of the things we do today may have their roots dating only back a few thousand years. One of these motivators we progress under, is our common belief in God. Done in many ways, this is one of those experiences man would have only gained after his start on the human path. It could be expected to have man, of many thousands of years ago, to have asked those first questions. "Who am I", and along with it, "Why". Deposits at the shelter suggested the painted pebbles were in someway related to gatherings. That they were more that just random toys. I could offer you many long and powerful suggestions, I just don't know. I do know that small sticks tied as crosses were recovered at the site. I do know there are many today that belive that there was a time when Christ presented himself to the peoples of the Americas, back in prehistoric time. The Mini-arts? If they could only talk. |
