It's only shoe laces

What interest could their history have for us? From late historic times we know that they were the replacement for cords, used to bind our lady's shoes, to her slender feet.

From sandals recovered at the Zueberbueler shelter, we learn that early man held his footwear on with straps and knots. So were the shoe laces just one of the many odd bits of European advancement that came with man of the east?

On shoes yes, but to lace up, no. As pottery shards demonstrate, man had been lacing up for over two millennium, here in the Americas. Pottery dating back to the Dephfort period, 2,500-2,000 BP, is found with the paired holes required to >>>repair cracks<<< in vessels.

The base of our Santa Rosa Beach pot, shown here, demonstrates how the base had been reattached. This frugality on the part of prehistoric man is understandable when we consider the amount of work that making early pottery required. Just another of those many parallels, and you can learn more of these parallels when you visit our library.
