As the list of titles offers, there are numerous forms of weaving available. It will be the making of mats that points to the peak of man's new craft. For it was the mats that would be the ultimate accomplishment. It would be a long road of development before the mat became the art of man using his hands. As the visitor moves through the display, we will try and bring out man's story, of doing the human act, discovery. The Pecos will offer links to the final development to the many forms of weaving, all have their part in the story of the mats. What will begin as simple exercises, of man's flexibility of thinking and using his hands, to express his thoughts. A group of small, truly basic interlacing of material, will give us a early clue of events to come. From a very early period these jewels from the past, warn the archaeologist, "beware, I, man human, will do great things". We will pause to quander the problem of the early weaver. An idea that worked, but only failed due to it's being ahead of it's time. A problem we will witness man overcoming. We end our display with the views of the ultimate skill recovered from the resting place of a infant child. Please, if you have questions on the history of early man weaving, or his use of the skill of a new craft, we, at the Pecos, are hoping you will e-mail us. This display is long, take your time and enjoy it. |
