The S frame

Unlike the four accompanying frames, the U, V, V V and W frames, the S frame is not a practice sandal.

The S frames, recovered at both the Zueberbueler Shelter and the Hinz Cave shelter, are full size sandals.

More importantly, it would seem these were man's first attempts at making footwear. Using the same technology as used in early weaving, interlaceimg. These became the start of a new craft, our rare sandals represent a faltering start for man and sandal making.

The University of Texas A.& M. places their carbon dating sample, from Hinz Cave, at a age of 8,300 BP, approximately. The Pecos is very fortunate that one it's three samples retains a fragment of the original toe strap. A second offers signs of side straps, this is suggested by the awl hole seen on each side.

The Pecos recovered almost 400 sample of sandal making at the shelter. Even with these numbers, sandals would seem to have been of limited value, outside the shelter.

Man of the old world also began making footwear at the same time, he also began with sandals. Just one more parallel fact? They do add up.
