One of the features of any display or discussion of early man is time, or when. Or "when
did it happen".
Many of us are familiar with the expressions of "BC, before christ" and "AD, after
death". Unfortunately not all of us in archeology are so good at math. To know how old
an artifact of early man is often requires us to add the years before Christ to the years
after death. A lot of work.
So many in the fields of Archeology and Anthropology used the simple method of just
"BP, before present era"
It also helps in parts of the world where the christian calender is not used. You need
remember that a large part of the human species is not christian.
