When the term 'early man' is used by the Pecos museum the inference is to man dating after the Paleo period and ending shortly after the christian era begins. 2000 to 10,000 BP (before present)

In south west Texas where the Pecos and Rio Grande rivers have their confluence the rock shelters are numerous. At one time, it was estimated, these would have totalled over eight hundred. The building of a large dam and lake near the city of Del Rio has now covered most of them by raising river waters.

But this area is the exception and not the rule. Today this period is referred to as the Archaic period. Any new discovery of sites where man of the archaic period settled is very important. Many of the crafts we associate with the American Indian had their beginning during this period.

The discovery and documenting of sites of early man is most important. Remember that man prior to this era, can only safely be called man creature. It was archaic man that would change all that.

Man of the Americas, separated by over ten thousand years, and oceans to the east and west would undergo the same evolution that man of Europe, Asia and Africa.

If you have read the paper with this display on the mysteries of parallel develoment you are sure to see where your reporting the discovery of new site of this period can only add to our knowledge of man human.
